' 'Thirdly, fhe righteoufi1efs of the covenant is in him, whereby to jufbfy the ungodly that have no righteoufnefs ' of their own. Hence his name is, 'The Lord our righteoufnefl, Jer. xxiii. ~. Righteoufi1efs of man before the Lord was quite worn out : there was . nothing of that k)nd left upon any of Adam's children, ' as it is written, There is none righteoas, no not one,' - Rom. iii. 10 . But Jefus Chrifi having, in · his birth, ]ife, and death, wrought out the righteoufnefs of the new covenant, brought it in, and prefented it unto his Father, Dan. ix. 24 . with Lev. xvf~ 15. Aod it was fufiained and accepted, as the new-covenant rightcouf~ nefs for jufiifying all that believe; and was lodged with the worker th ~reof, entruil:ed with it;as adminifirator - of .the cov'enant. Hence he is faid to be made unto us righteoufnefS; 1 Cor. i. 30. namely, by a Divine · confiitutien, even as he was made the covenant. And intimation hereof was made unto · finners, in the gof– pel, for a ground of faith; 'I fa. xlv. 24. ' Surely lhall one fay_, In the Lord have I righteoufnefs. Hebr. ' ' On- _ 1y in the Lord (concerning me he hath faid) isTigh• teoufnefs.'
