Here is great mourning, and forrow ; What caufed this ? faies he at the T o. verfe, They !hall lookuponme whom they havepierced, and theyfhall mourn They fhall look upon me whom they have pieret. This is the eye of faith, and-all true mour- ning, and forrow does come from thence. All tears of Repentance flow from theeye offaith : themore a man by faith is able to fee a pierced Chrift, the more his heart is piercectfor fin committed : the More by faith.a man is able to fee a wounded Chrift, the more will his heart be woun- ded for fin committed. Faith works Repentance : but what worketh faith? Surely the Gofpel, the preaching of the Gofpel : Feceivedye the Spirit by the works of the Law, or by the preaching offaith He does not fay by the preaching of the Gofpel, but by thepreaching offaith : The Gofpel is called faith, not only becatsfe 'tis the CWeft offaith; but that by which faith is wrought. Again, As Repentance is a fruit offaith : So alfo it does flow frcm love. Amor doloris caufa ; Love is the caufe of grief. Themorea mallows another, or apprehends that he is loved ofhim ; the more he grieves, if he hath any way injured him.
