411111111 2 Cor.4. 3 The spiritual life, and In-being trying Chrift, but in the Carel ? The more ye fee the Free, and Rich grace of God, the more you will deny your felves in fpiritual things : And where (hall ye fee the Free-grace ofGod, but in the Gofpel ? The more Faith ye have , the more you will deny your felves in spiritual things : And where fhall ye,get faith, but in the preaching of the Gofpel, and in ftudying of the Gofpel'? This grace of Humility and Self-denyal in fpiritual things , grows only in the garden ofthe Gofpel, in thebed of the Gofpel. There is a Field-Humility ; and there is a Common, or a Field-Self-Denial, as I may fo {peak. As ye fee it is with your Flowers, and Herbs : There is a garden-Tyme ; and there is a Field-Tyme; there is a Garden-Rote; and there is a Field-Rofe there is a Garden-Hony-fuckle ; and there is a Field-Hony-fuckle : So there is a Field-Self-De- nial, that grows among Heathen, and among Moral peo- ple, that can deny themfelves of this or that particular thing ; their Appetite, Cloathing, or now and then their Company. And there is a Gofpel-Self- Denial, a Mylleri- ous Self-Denial : But this Self-Denial in fpiritual things, grows no where but in the Garden of the Gofpel, there thou {halt fee an Humble Chrifi, and become Humble : There thou (halt fee a Self-Denying Chaff, and become Self-Denying. Therefore , ftudy the Gofpel, and fludy the wayof the Gofpel ; You that have walked in a Legal- way, Rudy the Gofpel, and the wayofthe Gofpel. I tell you in the words of theApoftle ; If the Gdel be hid, it is hid to them that perifh : If the Gofpel, and the way ofthe Gofpel be hid, it is hid to them that perith. And there- fore, go unto the Lord, and befeech him to open to you theway ofthe Gofpel : and in this Gofpel, you (hall be a- ble to learn this Self-denial, and be able to fay, as here the Apofde, I liveyet not I, but Chrill liveth in me.
