Thegreat Gofpel-Myftery ofthe Saints comfort and&line : houre. Oh then. how faithful is Jefus Chrift, in the matter of his Priefthood J He goes before all that ever went before him. 4. Again, Takeother High-Priefis, and though theywere never fo good, they could not alwaies intercede, they died; the High-Priett died, and another came in his room : But this man liveth for ever tomake Interceffion. 5. Yea, Take the High-prieft in the times of the old-Tefta- ment ; and while helived, he did not alwaies intercede for the people : Once in dyear, the High-priett came to enter into the Holy ofHolieft to fprinkle the Mercy-feat with blood, and cuffed a cloud to arife upon the Mercy-feat, with his prayers, and interceffions for their acceptance and then he went out of the Holy ofHoliett, and laid aide his garments. But now, ourgreat High prieft, is afcended into the Holy ofHolieft never to put off his Priefily gar- ments : and he does not once a year fprinkle the Mercy-feat with his facrifice, but every day : and therefore he goes beyond all the High-priefts that ever went before him. 6. Andyet further : Take the High-prieft in the old Law, in the times of the old Teltament : and though they did offer facrificefor fome finnes, and intercede ; yet there was other fins again, that no facrificewas tobe offered for. If a man did kill another at an-awares, there was a facrifice. Ifa man finned ignorantly, there was a facrifice. But faies the Teat in the 15. ofNumbers, 3o. veri. Ifany manfinpre- fumptuoully, hePall be cut of, andthere fhall be nofacrifice for soim : No facrifice, no intercefliotrby theHigh-prieft then. But we have fuch an High-prieft, that makes interceffions for All fins. So he faies himfelf: Every fin and blaffihemy, (hall be forgiven, except the blaitherny againft the Holy-Ghofi. Every fin, though it boyle up toblalphemy, it ihall be for- given ; but without facrifice there is no remiffion : and thereforehe hath made a facrifice, and fo he prefents the facrifice, and intercedes for every poor /inner .7 and there- -fore, he is Inch an High-prieft,that tranfeendsall the high-,, priefts that ever wasbefore him.
