i 66 evel itionoftheApöcalypfe. C A P. q.: things prefent , as they come tohand. For which caufe, thefe words, after thefe things , are not referred, in regardof their Originall , to the end of the fórmer Prophecy, but to the prefent time of loons age; yea to that fame moment of time, wherein the Holy Ghoft revealed thefe things unto him ; from whence taking a new, beginning, hee defcribeth the continuall race of the whole Church , and annexeth thofe things which could not be fufficiently underfrood out of the former Types. Well therefore doth Theodoret Bezel tranflate the words, after thefe things , by the adverbe hereafter. But in regard of the end, this fecond Prophecy is worthily recorded after the former, as the which is of a more long laving time, reaching unto the laff coming of Chrifl; ; whereas that former one is limitédwith far more narrow bounds. Out of thefe things thereforewe gather two thing, that are very greatly to be obferved. The firft, that fpeech is made from this place, concerning fuch things only , as follow after the time that this Revelation was made. For fo doth he plainly fpeak,. And I Will f%eW thee What things mull come to paffe hereafter. The which thing, feeing it was perceived by force of the Interpreters, I marvel that it was not obfervedby them in their expofitions;but that they íhould rather confound the times , as it were with a violent whirling of them about throughout the whole Treatife fo as all things are covered over withmolt grofle darkneffe. We being bet- ter taught by their example , will hence borrow light for the com- mentary following. Thefecond is this, that this Prophecy is com- mon to the whole Church, beingneither tyed to any particular Con- gregations, nor yet bounded with any other limits, thenof the whole univerfall world. TheHoly Ghoft bath fet that particular one in the firf} place, that he might relate common things in common , andnot interrupt the order of the narration. 2. /Wits therefore f raightWeiyes ravifhed in theSpirit. The fame authority altogether is here , that was before, both from the Ferfon that calleth, and alfo from theperfon of him that is called, For here is the fame holy infpiration, and motion fromGod, that he mentio- ned, Chap. t. i o. But what need was there of a new ravifhing ? What did the farmer decay or ceafe, that fo it fhould, after force ace of time, be kindled again afreíh ? Out of doubt it wasa conti- nued infpiration; but he faith, that he was ftraightwaves in the Spirit, becaufe the Spirit did frame , and fit him to receive new vifions , to the whichhee perceived himfelfe to be forthwith prepared. The INthole Revelation feemeth to have been finifhed on that Lardsday alone,,
