For therefore is it Pent forth from the horns of the Altar,bothto teach us,that this voice is an anfwer that is made to the fupplications of the Saints, as alfo that we might know,that by him alonewe obtain that which we ask,by whom, and in whom alone we offer prayers unto God. When as therefore the godly did earneftly ftrive with God by prayer,that he would pro- vide for his Church,that was now in a diareffefull & dangerous cafe, this commandment cometh forth from thehorns of the Altar, to lode the four AHPels;that while thefe fhould handle the obflinateenemies of the fincere truth as they deferved,the truth it felfmight in the mean time flourifh again, and might enjoy forme more quiet calm.Wehave learnedout of thofe things which have been Paid before,that pure re- ligion was utterly opprefhed,and overwhehned,partly with the over- runnig of the Locufls,partlywith infinite other corriptions,but efpe- cially with the tyranny of Antichriff.
