CA P.11. .i1 Pevelationof the Apocalypfe THE EXPOSITION. I. 111 D there appeared agreat fign in heaven. Whereas- we in- .1.- I cimated fhordy in the Analyps, that the threenext Chapters do belong joyntly to the continued Hifloryof the time paff, thine man may, perhaps, marvel!, why the Holy ÿhof fhould do the fame thing twice, and repeat the former Hiffory, which feernech to have been fufficiently laid open in the Chapters before, ofwhich we have fpoken, but chiefly, why he ftiould do this in this place, after the feventh Trumpets blaft, when as the end of all things Was ßortly after to come, as we have heard out of the tenth Chapter. The caufes ofboth thefe things are moll juft. For there is no man that beholdeth the parts of a building dif-joyned and fcattered one from the other, here and there, that can fcarce take any due infor- mation in his rninde touching the whole frame, much Ieffe can he perceive the elegancie thereof, which would be fern when all the parts are joyned together, and when each part is let in his proper place, and compaded one with another in a comely order among thetnfelves. The former handling of this Hilfory, was a certain pre- paration and fittingof the parts,as theywe le diffinguifhed one from theother; but this perpetual! narrationcompaFeth all, into one, and fetteth the whole building before our eyes, that we might fee to what perfe6tion that fingul r frame Both at length come. Now it is relented for this time, becaufe there couldnot bea full underffanding of there things before the laß Trumpet. The events came forthby little and little, andpoint by point, to the knowledge ofwhich, the world attained feverally and leafurably, aswhen hangings are unfolded:but nowwhenall things were at laff accomplifhed,it was a fit time to fee the whole garment dífplaidat large, and tomake up the whole frame of the building together and at one; but we are efpecially taught by this repetition, thattherewas fuch a Niffory ofall thefe matters to be compiled under this latf Trumpet, as is framed typically in thefe three Chapters. The which thing came topaffe about the yeer 156o. when certainlearned&skilfulmen made that Worthy Workofthe Centuries at Magdeburg ; Inwhich thirteens Centuries,Whatfoever ù to be hadfcat- teringly in the ancient Eccleßafhicall or political)writers, as touching matters donefromChriflsbirth,to the yeer 30o.isframed into one body, andlike a houle that is built up,and hath alltheparts ofit compaë-ied to- {ether 6tly among themfelves ,isfet underone view. Oar Country -men, Ioh.Fox and Ioh.Sleidan, took a torch-light from there mens writings, E e c 2 and 389
