It may fignifie a fingular kinde of Antichrifts, whereof the Apoftles have advertife. the 0-lurch diligently, even as o Poneros,that Wicked one, is often put for the generall Rock or kindeofwickedmen, the temprer, is put for the generall itocke or kinde oftempters, and fo in the re&, in which the article doth not refpeét one fingular thing, but fomething that is common, andnotable in the kinde thereof. The fourth place is Daniel 7. and t I. and t 2. Out of the feventh Chapter, yeu apply to your purpofe, thofe things which are fpoken of the little Horne, verfe 8,&c. whichyou fay, are to be expoundedof Antichrif, and that by a twofoldargument, fir.d, by the Authority of force ofthe Fathers,andthen by the words of `Daniel himfclf. I anfwer, that as touching the authority of the Fathers , I know that many learned men do interpret there things of Antichrift, but this inter- pretation ofours upon the Revelation fcattereth that mitt , which took away the fight ofthings fromus before, and would not fuller us to behold the matter it felf. For it teacheth that that little Horne differeth much from this Antichrifl, whom lohn defcribeth. For Antichrifl , is one of the heads oftheBeafl,which is ofmany fhapcs both in Daniel and in John ; now the little Horne is onely force addition joyned to that Head. Betides this rifeth up after the ten Horner, Antichrift fpriugs up together and at the fame hour with them all. That fubdueth threeofthe Horns& bringeth themunder hispower, holding the reft that arenot fubdued either for enemies, or at leaft for friend_s with whom he hath equall Priviledge. Antichrifl t'uleth over all the ten Horner, as to whom they do moft willingly yeeld their fervice until' the timefore-appointed by God.
