Wifdom makes a mans face to Thine ; riches, and honours, and dignities, and royal or- naments, and coffly fare, and noble attendants, don't put an excellency and glory upon man ; witnefs 4ntiochm, Saul, Haman Herod,Dives &c. but faving grace does ; the gra- ces of the Spirit are ;hat chain of pearl that adorns Chrifl's Bride. 2. Grace puts an excellency upon all a mans duties ; By faith Abel offered unto God a more excellent facrifice than Cain; faith put an excellency upon Abels facrifice. 3.Grace puts an excellency upon all a mans natural and acquired ex- cellencies ; it puts an excellency upon beauty,honour,richfs, name, arts, parts, gifts. Now, how excellent and glorious mull that be, that puts an excellency upon all our excellen- cies ? 4. Grace makes a man conformable to God and Chrif}. 5. Grace fits a man for communion and fel lowfhip with Father, Son and Spirit. 6. Grace fits a man for the choicell fervices. 7. Grace turns all things into a bleffing. 8. Grace fills the foul with all fpiritual excellencies. 9. Grace pre- ferves a Chriflian from the worfl of evils, vit. fin. Y o. Grace fweetens death, it makes the King of terrors to be the King of defires. Grace renders a man acceptable to God , and that's the heighth of a Chriflians ambition in this world, 2 Cor. 5. 9. wherefore Ire labour (4iNoTiictis[aeece, we are ambi- tious) that rrhether prefent or abfent l ire may be accepted of him. The ApoIlles made it their ambition to get acceptance in heaven riches, and honours, and gifts,and arts,and parts,&c. may commend us to men ; but 'tis only grace that commends us to God, and that renders us lovely in his eyes. 12. Grace will eternalize your names, grace will perfume and embalm your names, Heb. I I 2, By faith the Elders obtained a good re - pert. Ver. 3 9. And theft all having obtained a good report through faith received not the promife. Nothing raifes a mans name and fame in the world like grace. A man may obtain a great re- port without grace, but he can never obtain a good reportt without grace, nothing below grace will perpetuate a mans! name.
