Cann thou, 0 poor foul ! look up to heaven, and truly fay, 0 dear Lord Jefus I other Lords, viz. the world, the fiefh and the devil, have had do- minion too long over me ; but now thefe Lords I do heartily renounce, I do utterly renounce, I do for ever renounce, and do give up my felf to thee as my only Lord, befeeching thee to rule and reign over me for ever and ever : 0 Lord ! though fin rages, and Satan roars, and the world fometimes frowns, and fometirnes fawns ; yet I am refolved to own thee as my only I.ord, and to ferve thee as my only Lord ; and my greaten fear (by divine ailiftance) fhall be of offend- ing thee, and my chieten care shall be to pleafe thee, and my only joy shall be to be a praife, a name, an*an honour to, thee. 0 Lord , I can appeal to thee in the fincerity of my heart, that though I have many invincible fins, weak- neffes and infirmities that hang upon me ; and though I am often worfted by my fins, and overcome in an hour of tem- ptation, yet dial that knowea all thoughts and hearts, thou doll know that I have given up my heart and life to the obe- Idience of Jefus Chrin, and do daily give them up to his rule and government ; sand 'tis the earnefl defire of my foul, above all things in this world, thatJefus Chrift fet up his Laws in my heart, and exercife his - dominion over me. Now certainly, there is not the weaken ChriPcian in all the world, but can venture himfelf upon fuch an appeal to God as this is i.and without all peradventures where fuCh a frame and temper of fpirit is, there the dominion of Jefus Chrift is fet up ; and vi4ere the dominion of Chrift is fet up, there' fin has -no dominion ; for the dominion of fins and the domi- nion of Chrift are incontinent, and therefore fuch a foul is happy, and will be, happy to all eternity. But, Nineteenthly, That man ltilt will venture his foul upon Chrifl, and that will lean upoWChrift, and cleave to Chrift with full pupae of heart, and that will cleave to his bloud, and.cleaveto his righteoufcfs and cleave to his merits and fatisfaaion, in the face of fears, doubts, difputes, cavils and 4 9 Cant. 8.5.
