A choice Bed of Spices. 2 Tent rnifery. 3. To pat a covering upon his upper lip. (Some read it, upon his 114ouchaches) The Tearr in their mournings ufed this Ceremony among the ref}, of covering their chin, mouth, Moachaches, all under the nofe. Now the ufe of this Ceremony in the Leper, was partly to preferve others from `being infected by his Ioathfom breath, and partly to Phew that God takes no pleafure nor delight in the breathings, the prayers -of fpiritual Lepers, of wicked men. God loves not to, hear good words drop from an ill mouth, and partly to note that fhame that malt be mingled with his forrow. 4. - Twice to proclaim his own uncleannefs, unclean, unclean. And thus you fee that there was to be a,clofs connexion be- . tween the Lepers confefsion and his contrition ; and thus 'tis with the true penitent ; he does not only cry out, anclean, unclean, but he alfo rents and tears his garments, that is, he joyns contrition to his confefsion. The true penitent alwayes Pets a very high price and value upon a broken heart, though he has not the happinefs alwayes to have his heart broken. I know that fometimes the peni- tent foul is fo 'hut up, that if he rn417,ht have all the world he cannot mourn, he can only fit down, and filth, and groan ., nay, if all the joys and delights of heaven were to be bought for one fingle tear, he can't shed it ; and yet all this time he can grieve that he cannot grieve for fin, and he can be Corry K k that 9 0.4.°*.sirearoonor
