264 A Box of precious Ointment : Or enough that all the firings be right tuned op. cept one ; one firing that jars, will tpoyl the fweetefi mufick. The application is eafie, &c. rity of God awes a man from one fin, it will awe him from all. There is one and the fame Law-giver in refpe& of all the.commandements ; he that gave one commandement gave, alto another, therefore he that obferves one commandement in obedience-unto God, whofe commandement it's., will ob ferve all, becaufe all are his commandements ; and he that flights one commandement is guilty of all, becaufe he cloth contemn the authority and will of him that gave them all ; even in thole commands which he doth obferve, he bath no refpe& to the will and authority of him that gave them. Therefore there is no obedience towards God, where there leafe God, as well in one that hath inhibited one al a& ; and therefore he is not an uniform endeavour cling as in another. The fa finful a &, hath inhibited ever that out of confcience and refpe to God's will, and word; and authority, tin n; from any one fin, or abhors any one fin, he will out of confcience of the fame will, and word, and authority, tarn from every fin, and abhor every fin, be- caufe -thefame God in his wordhath alik.e forbidden al. 0 Sirs ! how is it poffible for a man truly to repent of this oe that fin, becaufe 'tis contrary tothe'Law, will and authority of God, but he mull needs repent of whatfoever he knows to be contrary to the Law, will and authority of God. He that turns from any one fin becaufe it is a tranfgreffion of the holy and righteous Law of God, he will turn from every fin upon the fame account ; he that turns from any one fin, be- caufe 'tis a difhonour to God, a reproach to Chrift, a grief to the Spirit, a wound to Religion, &c. will upon the, fame grounds turn from every fin ; he that turns from any one fin, becaufe of the curfe, the threatnings, the judgments, the wrath, the hell that hangs (as it were) over the head of that fin ; he will -turn from every fin, becaufe the curfe 2 the threatnings, the judgments, the wrath, the hell, that hangs over the head of that one fin, hangs over the head of every fin. By thefe.hints 'tis moil evident, that the reafons of turn- ing from fit are univerfally binding to a penitent foul ; and therefore he turns not from fome fins only, butfrom every fin ; he Oyes not to one, but to all his Idols, Get you hence, for what have I any more to do with you.
