No hypocrite did ever long and mourn after the enjoyment of Chrift, as the belt thing in all the world ; no hypocrite did ever prize Chrift for a fanetifier as well as a Saviour ; no hypocrite did ever look upon Chrift, or long for Chrift to deliver him from the power of his`fins, as much, or as Well as to deliver him from wrath to come ; no hypocrite can really love the perfon of Chrift, or take fatisfaaion in the perfon of Chrift, the rayes z The. t, zo. and beams of Chrifts glory has never varm'd his heart, he never knew what bofom communion with Chrift meant. An hypocrite may love to be healed by Chi if', and to be pardon- ed by Chrifi, and to be fa ved by Chrift, & c. but he can never take any complacency in the perfon of Chrift, his heart never ferioufly works after union with Chrift. The love of a fin- cere Chriftian runs much out to the perfon of Chrift, hea- ven it felf without Chrift, would be to fuch a foul but a poor hil. T. zit. Cant. No hypocrite in the world is fincerely willing to receive Chrift in all his Offices, and to clofe with him upon Gofpel terms. The terms upon which / Sohn It, 13. God offers Chrift in the Gofpel, are thefe,viz,. That we shall Mac. i6.24. accept of a whole Chrift with a whole heart. Now mark, a whole Chrift includes all his Offices, & a whole heart includes all our faculties : Chrift as Mediator is King,Prieft and Pro- phet, and fo God the Father in the Gofpel offers him. Sal- vation was too great and too glorious work to be perfected and compleated by any one office of Chrift. Chrift as a Pro- phet inftruas uc,and as a Prieft he redeems us,and intercedes for us, and as a King he fanaifies and faxes us. Confider Chrift as our Pro- phet, and fo he is made wifdom to us ; confider him as our i Cor. I.30. Prieff,and fo he is made righteoufnefs and redemption to us ; confider him as our King, and fo he is made fan6ification and holinefs to us.An hypocrite may be willing to imbrace Chrift as a Prieft to fave him from wrath, from the curfe,from hell, from everlasting burning,but he is never fincerely willing to imbrace
