302 A Box of precious Ozntment : Or, brace Chria as a Prophet to teach and inftruCt him, and King to rule and reign over him-; many hypocrites may be willing to receive a Chria Jefus, that are not willing to re- ceive a Lord Jefus; they may be willing to imbrace a faving Chril +, but they are not willing to imbrace a ruling Chrift Luke 19 27. a commanding Chrift. This man fhall not rule over Ns. .0 e-' ruplem, f erujalem I thou that killeft the Trtpbets , bow cften Mat. 23. 37. would I have gathered thy children together, even as a hen gather.. Pfal. 2. 2., 3. eth her chickens under her wings, and ye would not? And ye wilt ,john 40. John / I. not came to me that ye might have life. He came to his own, and his lica.8 own received him net. An hypocrite is willing to receive ix Pzt.i. 7, 8. Chria in one office, but not in every office ; and this is that humbling Bone at which hypocrites Rumble and fall, and are broken in pieces. Certainly Chrift is as lovely and as comely as clearable, and delightful as eminent, and excellent in one office as he is in another, and therefore 'tis a juft and righ- teous thing with God, that hypocrites that won't receive him in every office, fhould have no benefit by any one of his offices. Chrift and his offices may be diftinguifhed, but Chritt and his offices can never be divided ; whiff} many have been a la- bouring to divide one office of Chria from another, they have wholly aript themfelves of any advantage or benefit by Chria. Hypocrites love to share with Chria in his happi- nefs, but they don't love to (hare with Chrift in his holinefs;: they are willing to be redeemed by ChM}, but they are not cordially willing to fubmit to the Laws and Government of Chria ; they are willing to be caved by his blond, but they are not willing to fubmit to his Scepter. Hypocrites love the priviledges of' the Gofpel, but they don't love the fervices, of the Gofpel, efpecially thole that are molt inward and fpi- ritual. But now a fincere Chriltian he owns Chria in all his john z. offices, he receives Chrift in all his offices, and he clofes' Pleb. 7, Ir,au. with Chria in all his offices, he accepts of him not only as a. at. a. 6. Afts 3. tz. Chrift Jefus, but alfo as a Lord Jefus ; he imbraces him noti John / 2,46. I Only as a Paving Chria, but alfo as a ruling Chria. The Co-. col, z, 6, lolians received him as Chrift Jefus the Lord, they received; a Lord Chrift as well as a laving Chria, they received Chrifi- as a King upon his throne, as well as a facrifice upon his Crofs. Cor. x. 33.
