C H A P. 15. proniur receiveth no fatiffaEtion , for what Titius fi:ole from him , but if he come & give it for Titiur & he be fatiffied there with , then there is a Law-Union Sc onenefs betwixt Titiur & Meviur, whereby the SatiffaEtion given bv Mavius , becometh the fatiffadion of Titiur. 3. He faith , in that hereby He hath merited of God the Father all that R,ighteoufneff , which we are truely the Subjetr of , whether it be kelative or Jualitatiue , or AFtive ; that is , our right to Chrift in union, to the Spirit, is Impunity dr to glory, 2. the grace ofthe Spirit by which we are made holy, dr fulfill the condition; of the Law ofgrace : we are the fubjefis of thefe , ds' he it the Meriter ; e the MeritoriurCaufeofout life is well called our Righteeufnefr, dT by many the material Caufe (as our own perfeti obedience would have been) becaufè it 'ir the matter of that merite. Anf. That Righteoufnefs , which he faith here Chrift bath merited , is not that;Righteoufnefs unto juftification oflife , as the Apoftle fpeaketh Flom. ç: IS. And which we have by the Obedience of Chrift, made ours by Imputation vet.: 19. whereof we are here (peaking , & iñ refped of which Chriftsis faid to be our Righteoufnefs (2.) Our right to Chrift is not our Righteoufnefs , in order to juftification; nor is our Right to Impunity & Glory chat Righteoufnefs , but a confe- quent thereof (3.) In refpeEt of the Graces of the Spirit , which follow juftification & do not preceed it , Chrifl is called our Santi fication : & Mr. Baxter knoweth , there is a difference betwixt Righteoufnefs & Holi- nefs. (4.) The Meritorius Caufe of our life is well called our Righteouf- nefsen it is Imputed to us & put upon our fcore , as the Ground of our juf1i tion & Abfolution ; & upon this account only is it by many cal- led the Material Caufe. 4. And alfo (faith he) Chrifi's jntercejfion with the Father hill procureth d this , as the fruit of His Meriter. Anf. Of Chrift's procuring our holineís we make no Doubt: but that upon this account, He is called our Righteouf- nefs, is denied : for this is not His Obedience & Righteoufnefs, whereby we become Righteous unto juflification of life. 5. And we are related (faith he) as His members (though not parts of His Perfon, as fuck) to Him, that thus merited forur. Anf if we be related to Him , as members , in order to our partaking of His Righteoufnefs & Me- ritas , we mull be parts of His legal Perfon r though not of His Phyfical Perfon : for by Members here I fuppofe, he meaneth Members of His My- flical body or members of His Ranfomed & Redeemed body : And head & Members here make one Political body, & become one Political Per- fon, or one in Law- fenfe. 6- And (faith he) we have the Spirit from Him, as our Head. Anf, This is but what vt was laid before in the 3. place. And this Spirit is given for holineís : but Chrift is our Righteoufnefs, as well as our Sanctification; & it is of His being Righteoufnefs, that we are fpeaking. 7. And heir our Advocat (faith he) e will juflijle us , as our judge. Anf. His being our Advocat, is the fame with His Intercetlion fpoken of in the 4. place. (i.)
