C H A P. 10. 11 fteY fins & punishments do not null jufti fication. 17 5 for that is repugnant to the Methode of the Gofpel , requireing new as of faith , in order to new axis of Pardon , I mean the implicit a Ets of faith ( to fpeak fo ) in reference to dayly infirtnities & unfeen fins , & the more ex- phcï; ads of faith , in reference to groffer fins, feen & lamented : But they have ground to plead for grace to difcover their fns, to humble them for their fins , & to excite their foul to renewed alts of faith in Chrift and thereupon to expect , according to the Gofpel methon..e, Remifïìon; and to plead for it , in the merites of Chrift , unto which they ,have a lure Right. Therefore 4. New fins cannot annul the flare of justification; be- caufe not only are beleevers fecured that de eventu, they shall not come into Condemnation for thefe ins ; but even as to any legal duenets of punish- ment , that new fins may bring them under, there is a lure & laife remedie at hand , the blood of Christ that taketh away all fin , to which they are called to go : that they may wash their fouls there by faith , and be clean , & be delivered from guilt. 4. For further clearing of this we could confider , that there is a diffe- rence to be put betwixt Sin , in order to its direful effects , confidered in it fclf, and conftdered , as it is in the Inttified. Though lin , in it felf is al- wayes mortiferous , and expofeth to the ciirfe..and wrath of God , having a malignant demerite cónstantly attending it: Yet it is not fo , being consi- dered, as it is in the juftified : for as poifon , is alwayes deadly in it felt, & working towards death ; yet it is not fo , as in a perfon , who bath received a fufficient antidote, Though every alt of felonie in it Pelf snake obnoxious unto death , according to the Law ; yet fome ads , as committed by one , who can read , will riot have that effect: fo the beieever is antidored by the Covenant of Grace , that howbeit fin remaine {till deadly , in its own natu- re ; yet as to him , it cannot produce thefe effects. 5. Though after Bins, in a justified perfon , may have, before they be par- doned, very fad effects , in reference to Comfort, or comfortable Itnprov-- mentof their 'Privileges & Advantages': yet they cannot difinherite therm , or put them from their Right : Though leprofie did deprive the leper of the comfortable enjoyment and ufe of his own houle; yet it did not detiroy his right : though the mifcarriages of the prodigal fon did incapacitate trim for any prefent enjoyment of bis interefi in his Fathers affeftion yet they did not deftroy his Sonshipe Lull. i 5: 17. So though fins, not yet washen away , in fuch as have been juftified , may and will certainly prejudge them of many comfortable Advantages, which they might otherwayes ha- ve ; yet they do not take away their Sonshipe, nor their Right to the Inhe- ritance of fones. C. Though after fins , not yet pardoned through faith , do and will flirt up Fatherly Anger & Difpleafure againft them , who are juftified , and be- come his Adopted children ; EJai. 54: 7, S. Yet they bring not juftified man under pure judicial wrath and under the Curfe and Law-anger , fo ás God is no more their Father, but bath call them out of his familie, & father - ly' favour. It is one thing to be under-the frowns & gloomes of an angry Father; & another thing to be under the fevere afpet of an angry judge. L1 7.It tr; e.
