C } A P. 2r. fyufiification is by faith. 2g1 I. That no man is made partaker of the lite of Jufification, before Faith ; or that, uutill fouls exerc,fe faith , they are W'ithout this life of jutiifi. arion. Some talk of a juitification from Eternity; & ihris confound j1;(tif,cttion with Gods love of Election; or with Gods decree & purpofè to ju(tifie. Some fpeak ofJullificatlem of all , in the death ofChritt; but neither is this to be admitted , if we fpeak ofaetual juttification; It is true, Ch rill did , when he laid down the full price of Redemption , conforme to the Eternal corn- pact betwixt Jehovah & Him, make an abfblute & actual purchafe of all thofe, that were given to him to be Laved , & did buy & purchafe all the Favours, Bleffings & Privileges for them, which were afterward to be 'á &uall- be- llowed , in the time , & after the way & methode , condefcended upon by Jehovah & the Mediator ( l am here fpeaking of fuch as carne to have a beings in the world , after Chri(t had in the fulnefs of time , come & laid down the price & not of thofe ; who lived before , when Chrift's death & 'atis(a&ion had only a Moral being , & yet full efficacie to produce the fame faving effects on belecvcrs : ) and thoagh in this refpe&, aft the Elect may be Paid to have been virtuallyjutkified, when thrift laid down the actual price, and was ju- ftiffed from all the charge of their debt , that was laid upon him ( as in forne fenfe , it may be faid , treat all the Ele& were virtually Jutlified in Him, when he undertook to make fatisfadtion for their debt ) yet there is no'a&ual Jufti- fication before Faith ; according to the Scriptures that fpeak of juttification, ofadoption , & of San&ification by Faith , shewing that thefe Benefites & Privileges follow Faith , as to their a&uall being , though they were from eternitie decreeul , as was alto Glorification , & were actually procured by Chrilts death : in which refpe&, as alfo in refpeei of Chri(is undertaking or fubltituting him relfin the room offinners, they may bbe faid to have been vir- tually , Sanctified & Glorified , even then. 1 t is true , that before Faith , the ju(lification actual ofthe Ele& is every way fecured, & all things tending thereunto are concluded & firmly laid , & all the other anteceding caufes are exittent, ocfore Faith for Chrifl is appointed & fübtiitute Mediator; Chrilt hath accepted & undertaken the work of Mediation ; He is corne in the ful- nefs of time , & bath laid down the full price ; The Father is fatisfied with the price paid. The hather laid upon him the iniquity of all the Ele& , & He hath bortttit, & made full fatisfa&ton, therefore he is accepted of the Father, as Head or the Ele& juftified & pof eflèd of glory, fo as they may be faid to be rifen with hirn in heavenly places to wit virtually , & meritoriou(ly; & all this before frith, Thus God was in Chritl, reconciling the Elect world unto him'..elf, not imputing trefpafiès unto them , becaufe he imputed them to Chrt(t & made him fin , who know no fin & this before the word of Reconci- liation , minifired by the Ambafl'adours of Chri(t hath wrought them up un- to God by faith,. 2Cur.
