C H.A P. T. 7ujîfication is by faith. 295 juflified by Love, or by Patience , or by Hope , or any other ; but aiiwayes by Faith. This certainely muff infirurt t;s, that Faith here bath a peculiar and fingular interefl, &muff be confidered , as looking to Chrift , in a dif ferent way , from Hope& Love , which allo have Chrifl for their objcéty or Chrift mutt be the ob;e a of Faith , in another manner & under fotne other confideration , than he is the objet of other:graces. 12. It is alto confiderable , that it is limply Paid , the full man liveth by faith, orrveare juflifled by faith , and not the jufl man liveth , or we are ju- ftified, by a itrong'faith , or by a faith continueing to the end : Though it be true, that a true & lively Faith is of that Nature, that it will continue to the end , and will grow ; yet we may toot fay, that only a ftrong Faith, ora Faith as continueing to the end is the condition of the Covenant , or of Juttification; for hence it would follow , that as no man of a weak , yeti true and fincere Faith , could be Paid to he Juftified, fo no man could be faid to be Juftified untill his Faith had endured to the end , which is contrary to Scripture, fpeaking of beleevers , while in their infancy , as juftifred & adopted , as partakers of , or at lead, as having a Right to the confequen ces of Juftification 4 fuch as Pardon, Peace , Glorying in Tribulation , and Comfort &c. The promife granteth luftification and Adoption to Faith, that is of the right kinde, &. no mention is made of that Qualification. thereof , He that beleeverh is paled from death to life, and shall never die r&c. job. 3:36. yob. 3: 16, 18. toh.I :I2. If the meaning of fuch , as make Faith, as continueing to the end, the condition of the Covenant and of Ju- fiification , were this , That Faith as continued in to the end is the Mean. of Continuance in the Covenant , and in the ftate of Juflification, they should fpeak truth : for the juft liveth by faith firfl: & laft, as. by Faith they ,, are brought into that eftate, fo by faith they are continued therein; Faith, maketh the firfi Union , Faith continueth it But of this we shall have oc- cafion to fpeak more afterward. 13. This faith is taot one Tingle at of the foul, nor feated in one faculty,. The various things , fpoken of it in Scripture, and the various objets it adeth upon , and is exercifed about, and the various and different neceffi- ties , which beleevers Rind into, with the correfponding ufes, which faith . ferveth for , in thefe necefíities , cleare it to be no one fingle at of the Soul I would rather call it the at of the whole Soul, than the at of any faculty,, whatfomever.
