But where ever Faith , or its Objectis mentioned, in the matter of lultification , Chrift'sRighteoufnefs is never excluded , more then himfelf, for as himfelf was the Cautioner, fo his . Righteoufnefs was fide_ lti fjsry; &.faith acting upon one muff neceffat:ily actor both, thefe being infeparable ; befide , that elfewhere this is exprefly eno,gh mentioned. Yet he granteth that' it it of nearer concernment to themaine to heleev this righte- oujnefr ofChrifi than the beleeving of many other thing 6efr des , comprehended in the Scriptures. But why, I pray., if this belong not to the object of ju{ti- fying faith:? I-le not only will have us beleeve, that Chrift's Righteoufnefs is not reckoned amongft the objects of faith , as juftifying ; but he will al. To give a reafon , why it is not fo reckoned ; to wit , becaue , though it ought to be cannot but be beleeved by that faith., which ju fli fieth , yet it may be belee- ved alJò by filch a faith, which i: Jò far from ju ffifying, that it denyeth this Chrift to be the Sen of God. Thus fòine jewes gave telli, nony to his innocency , who yet received him not fin' ;heir Meijiab , nor beleeved him tobe God ; & this it the fra- me of the Tur(ish faith , for the moll part , concerning hint , at this day. The innocency of Chri{t as man , before men is one thing , but hiscompleet Surety,Righteoufnefs as one that was both God & man,, is another thing. Now Juftfyingfaith looketh to , ,&-re {tech upon his whole Surety- Righteoufnefs & looketh upon him , as God -Man ; There- fore it cannot bethus beleeved ( which is the only right way of beleeving it) but only by Inch , asleane to this Righteoufnefs , as the Righteoufnefs of the promifed Meßïah , & Mediator, God -Man, as Abraham did , and as all -his children do : and this is -the only Faith , that is Juftifying & Sa- ving. It feemeth by this expre.11ion., that there ìs.no more to be regairded in Chrift's Righteoufnefs, but the meer innocency ofa man. Fiftly tie tels us.
