It is true , there isnothing here itnmediatl}y afcri- bed to this act; but notwithftanding thereof, we fee Chriíi the objeétof hope , denominated by the aet or habite of hope. And whereas it is faid that this thin d thing , the Righteoufnefs of Chrift,,is not once mentioned , it may fu lice, that it is fulfiiciently included , & clearly enough expref ed, wben mention is made of Righteoufnefs , & of the Righteoufnefs of faith , & of Righteoufnefs imputed. But though'jufiifving faith containe in it that hitlorical faith , & prefuppofe it; yet it includeth morel & hath other peculiaraófings of foul upon and towards Chritt & his Righteoufnefs ( which here we cannot f parate , far lefs oppofe to other as our Adverfary doth ) in reference to the mans libe- ration from the fentence of the Law , & the Curfe due to him for the breach thereof, now charged -home, upon him by the Lord , & an awakened con - fcience:. (2) By Chrift's Righteoufnefs we donor underhand his Pimple inno- cency , or freedom from the transgreflion of the Law; but his whole Me- diatory work , in his Rate of humiliation , as fatisfying the offended Law- giver, & anfwering all the demands of the Law , both as to doing& fuffe- ring, which debt we were lying under.
