I grant , it may be faid, that as Chrift hath purchafed to his own Pardon, Juffificatron,Adoption & Salvation ; fo, asaconfequence of this , he hath purpofed the Meanes , or rather the Application of the cneanes, thereuntoi that fo the good things purchafed may be adloally conferred, ac- cording tó the manner & inethode condefcended upon by Jehovah and the Mediator in the Covenant of Redemption; for He hath chofen us, inhimfelf having predeflinat us unto the _Adoption of children , by LeftsChrifl, unto him- felf, according to the good pleafure of his twill, to the praife of the glory of his gra- ce , wherein he hath made us acctpted , in thebeloved , in whom we have redempti- or, throughhis blood, the forgivnefs of fins 5c. I:4, 5, 6, 7. the chofèn ones are predellinated both to the end , & to the cneanes leading to the ends: But this rnatter is not confrílent with their Afíertion, who fay, that Chrift by his death bath purchafed Faith & New Obedience to be the Condition of the Covenant , becaufe by their Unìverfàl Redemption they leave all(at an uncertainty, efpecialiy when allo they will not grant, that Chrift bath purchafed Faith itíclf to any perfon. Iz.. It Mutt be faid... that Chriíl purchafed the termes of the new Cove - nant.... and purchafed, that God should abolish the Law quite , and not require a conformitie thereunto, as our Righteoufnefs, by vertueof the new Covenant , nor exact full Obedience to the Law , from any , in our name; & confequeutly it muff be faid, that Chrift bath purchafed ,i that the Lawgiver should wholly paffe from that cfiablished Conftitution do f live, without any real accomplishment thereof, or requiring the accom- plishment thereof from any, on their behalf, to theend , the Lord might be j uft , when be is the juflifier of him that beleeveth in Jefus. 13. This affertion alío ftricketh againft Chrift's being the Surety of the New Covenant : for it is not the work ofa Surety , as fuch , to purchafe the Making & Conflitution of a Covenant ; but to confirme & ratifie the lame, & to engage for the party , for whom he is a Surety , that he shall perfor- me the conditions , accorded to in the Covenant; & fo to eflablish the Co- venant or contras , already agreed unto & cooftituted. 14. Thus it should be laid, that Chrift died rather for graces, than for perlons , to wit. That Faith & new obedience may be elevated beyond their ordinare fphere, & exalted to be the Condition of the New Covenant. But the whole Scriptures fpeak otherwife of Chrift's death. it 5.
