Righteoufnefs a: a put by, and he getteth not that rent of glory that is only due w him ; & the foul is made to leane upon fomething befide this Rock of ages. 7. We cannot admit it for a Condition , in their fenfe , who will have ers hereby to have_gotten a legal Title or Right unto f u(tification & other be- nefiaes according .... following the fame ; feing this puts the crown upon Mans head , as having by his deed acquired a jus & Law -right unto thefe bleflïngs, which become hereby a reward not of grace , but of jutt debt We acknowledge all our Right & Title to all the blefïings of the Covenant, to be from Chrilt the only purchafer; & of him mutt we hold all , that all may be of free grace, & he, even he alone may have all the Glory, having redeemed us with his precious blond, & purchafed the whole lnhe- ritance, of grace & glory for us. S. We cannot accounr it a Condition , in their fenfe, who plead for Uni- verfal Redemption ; becaufe thereby Chrilt is only made to have purchafed fomething to all alike , & that Conditionally , & no more grace & glory for Peter than for rudas, but Peter by his own Paires & Induttrie, by his Faith & New Obedience , did purchafe the whole perfonal and immediat Right unto the bleffings , which he enjoyeth ; and hath received no more from Chrift , than what Judas had , & fo hath no more ground of exalting him for Redeemer , than thole have , who perish , feing what he purcha- fed was common to all , & no more for one in particular than for another: for this fetteth the crown upon mans head , who bath faved himfelf by his fweating , paines & labour ; and fpoileth our Lord Redeemer of his glory. 9. Nor can we account it a condition , in their fenfe , who will have the whole or principal part of what Chrift purchafed to be the New Covenant & the Termes &Conditions thereof; as if Chrift had been a Cautioner for none in particular, but had fo far redeemed all, as to have brought them into Inch an eftate, wherein they might now work & won for themfelves, run & fight for the prize , according CO thenew Conditions purchafed ; and fo, if they run well , facrifice to their own net , and burn incenfe to their own drag , becaufe by their own induftrie & care in performing the Conditions, now made eafier, than they were to Adam in the firtl Covenant , theirpor- tion is fat, & their meat plenteous. io. Nor yet can we call it a Condition , in their fenfe, who will have us look upon it , in the work of Juftification , purely asa work of ours & as an ad of Obedience to a command ; & as filch a work, as comprehendeth in it all the works of new Obedience : for thus its peculiar Ufe ofapplying Chrift, & of apprehending his Surety -Righteoufnefs, is taken from it ; & the who- le nature of the new Covenant is changed into the old Covenant of works; & Chrift's fldejunbrie- Righteoufnefs is not made our immediat Gofpel-, Righteoufnefs; yea when we are thus junified by Faith, we are ¡unified by works; whereby the.whole of' the ApofilNdifputais overturned ; & we are taught to leane to , & lay our weight upon a Righteoufnefs within ourfelves; contrare to the whole fcope of the Gofpel.
