Not todebate that here , which is to be (poke to afterward , (to wit, whether juftifying faith while it is adting , in order to Juffi fication , cloth receive Chrift, as a King ? or rather , ( for this is more properly the que- Ition ) whether a perfon, under the Convi6tion of fin & wrath , & feeking for Pardon & Acceptance in & through Chrift, Both fix the eye'of his foul upon Chrift as King , or as Prieft ? Or whether there is that in Chrift, confidered as a King , or confidered as a Prieft, that is more futable unto the prefent cafe of the convinced firmer ? Or whether , or not, the Perfon, in the Condition mentioned, feeketh reliefe rather from Chrift , as a Prieft, offe- ring up himfelf , as a Sacrifice giving his bloud for a Ranfome , to Sati$fie the juftice of God for fins or as a King , endued with Authority to fubdue lin ? And if 'the queftion thus propofed unto the experienced Chritli- ans , or unto the perfons , in fuck a Condition , it would , I fuppofe, re- ceive avery quick anfwere. ) Unto the queftion now propofed I fay , That, though it were granted , that Faith , in order to the mans Uglification, did ad as well on Chrift as a King , as on Chrift', as a Prieft ( which yet cannot be granted ; as is already hinted , and shall be cleared afterward ) yet it would not follow , that this Faith did efhentially include a Refolution and Engagment to future obedience : for it is not here , as in Subjeéts receiving a perfon for their King , as was Paid already , whole Perlons or Subjects, have power & ability , & their will ( as to thefe things ) in their own hand, & may therefore promife obedience , according as the Relation made up, formally engageth unto; & yet Mr. Baxter ag. Now the cafe is fo here with us , with advantage ; for not only , are we in bands , and lying in peifon, and fo unable to performe any Obedience; but naturally, till a change be made, we are utterly unwilling & averte from performing any as of Obedience, though it were in our power, fo that before we be in cafe toyeeld obedience , the whole man muff be renewed, Judgment , Will & Aífeetions ; when therefore , we , in filch !a cafe, re- ceive Chrift, as our King , it is firftly.& chiefly, that he may make us wil- ling in the day of his power ; that he may make us his Sttbjeéts, willing & obedient:, & ready to do his will ; that he may ioofe our bands, deliver us from
