3 Love &c. not Condition of Juiification. C x A P. 3o. And ofths we need not fpeak much feingby what is already faid, it isap- parent how falfe this is. Every thing ,That is required of fuch, as are Belee- vers , cannot be called a Condition of Juftification. It is fàid, that a Con- dition fufpendeth the obligation, to beltow the benefice promifed upon Con- dition , untill it be performed : And fo it will hence follow , that , if Per - feverance to the end be the Condition of Ju(Iification , no man can be jufti- fied, untill he have perfevered to the end ; & fo no man shall he juflified in this life ; whereby an end is put to all our prefent debate , the fubleCt there- of being taken out of the way. If it be fad. That faith is the Condition of Julification , as itendureth to the end. I Anf. That that faith , which will endure to the end , is the Condition , I grant. But I deny, That Faith is the Condition of Ju(lifica- tion , as it endureth to the end , we no where read of Faiths being the Con- dition , under this reduplication , as enduring to the end ; for then it would follow, that no lively faith, how ftrong fo ever, could unite a foul to Chrift untill it had endured to the end , and fo man upon his firft Belee- ving , let his faith be never fo liv ly & ftrong , can be laid to be julfified, to have paffed from death to life; contrare to all the scriptures. And this would too much aflilnilate the New Covenant unto the Old , wherein Adam was to work out his dayes -work to the end, ere he had Right to his wages. Yea 8z hence it would follow, that in this life , there were none of the fruites of juffification to be had , fuch as Peace with God , Accefle to God , GIo- rying in ttibulations , Joy & Comfort , contrare to experience , & the Scri- ptures. Rpm. 5 : I, 2, 3, 4, 5, I I. & 8: 3 5. to the end. Lull. 7: 5o. Mat. 9:2, 2. Thef. z: i6. Heb. 6: I S, I 9. r. Pet. I: 4. So that in a word, from what hath bein faid, it is evident, howttle ground M.Br. hath to glory in this way of his,and though to an inadve/eut perfon it may appearePlaufible, what is adduced for a reafon, yetwhenconfadered,it will be found froath and a florish of words: for be it fo, that juflifieing faith recei- ve whole Chrift (which we doe not deny: for Chrift is not divided : for as the- re is but one faith, fo but one Chrift. And will have occafion to fpeake mo- re fully to this matter afterward.) Yet what Both Mr. Baiter gain ?hath he gained his Pepper- corne of Faith or Gofpel- obedience to be imputed unto us for Righteoufnefs according to the new law ( he should fay, the new edi- tion of the Old Covenant, or rather the Old Covenant newly effablished ? ) no, by no means: for be it granted , That Iuftifieing Faith as fuch refpeCted Chrift equally as King and Prophet,as it doth him as Prieft (which yet I de- ny, and shall, without divideing Chrift, make it appeare') I aske him, how doth it receive Ch ift Jefus the Lord? Surely he cannot but fay, as he is offer - red in the Gofpel; well then , the Lord, who knoweth what we are, offereth him to us, and makes him to us wifdom, Righteoufnefs, SanClification and redemption, fo that God in the offer of his Chrift asa King , lookes upon the firmer in the fame capacitie to obey him , as in the offer of him as a Prieft he is to pay his debt , and that is not onely in ¡no capacitie but as oppofit to fuch a thing of himfelf. Hence it as evident that Faith receives Chrift asa King not by promifeing or purpofeing to obey him, but from a Convi- ïfion
