The Spirit of jefus bo- weth & inclineth the foul hereunto, & determineth the doubting man un- to this choice , & rnaketh him willing, whether it be in a leffer, or in a greater degree, to flee to Chrift for fhelter, from the florme of wrath, & to be Paved from the Curfe : And though the foul, in the meane while, be not in cafe to obferve & take notice of the powerful workings of grace herein ; Yet afterward he is in better cafe to fee it, & to celebrate the rich & free grace of God, who bath vifited him in his low condition , & be- gan à work in him & never left him , untill he landed him in Chrift , in whom was all fulnefs, & he found he was compleat, & through whom he obtained that delivery from wrath , which he was Peeking after, meerly out of his wonderful free grace & mercy. C H A P. V. In Juftification there is a State of life HAving premifed thrfe three particulars , not unworthy of our co n- fideration , & ferving to prepare the way unto what followeth to be fpoken unto ; we come more particularly to handle the words, & to fee what may be drawn out of them for our Information & Edification, that we maybe inftruded concerning the nature of this noble Privilege, & concerning the way, how it is brought about , & perlons may be made par - takers thereof, as alto flirted up unto a right Improvement of the truth herein, whether we be already made partakers thereof, or are yet Itrangers thereunto. We Intend not (as we hinted at the beginning) to touch upon, far lefs to difcufs at lenghth , all the many & perplexed controverfies, that are moved , both of old & of late, by men of different Principles & perfwa- fions. or do we intend to handle the feveral Arguments , which the A- poftle adduceth for confirmation of rhe Truth, in this matter, But our pur- pofe only being to touch upon , & , at leaft , to endeavoure the clearing of fome of the Principal Qüeftions, moved in this matter, in reference to the forementioned ends, we íhall fatisfie our felves, at prefent, with (peaking to fuch particulars, as the Text will give ground for. The words having been cleared , & the Scope of the Apoftle declared, which cannot be hid from the eyes of any , who will read the purpofe the- re are only two things, which call for our Confideration; Firft The Con - clufion which the Apoftle is difproving & confutingwith a manzfeflo ; to wit, That no man it juflified in the fight of God by the Lam, or by the works of the Law.
