2.6 A life- of jufl:' fication. C x A P. 5. the like Argument , whereby he ítateth an rnconfiflency, yea an Oppofi- tion, betwixt jullification by the Law , & ;unification by faith , faith, that it will not be very neceffary to fpeak much to that , which is here the Apof- tles Conclufion ; that is , ro creare, that juflification is not by the works of .the Law : for the clearing of ;unification by faith will enforce that of it felf. We íhall not therefore infra upon that , howbeit we may in end , con- fider, what is faid by force for ¡unification by works, & what way loch think to Chun the odium, of manifettly contradithng the Apoflle, & of main- taining that Errour, which he fetteth himfeiffo peremptorily againít , as acted by the Spirit ofGod. The Principal thing then, which we have hereto do, is ro confider the Import of the Apoflles argument , for the jufl fhall live by faith , yet we are not to confider thefe words , in their juft length & breadth , nor particu- larly , in reference to the ufe , which the Prophet Habba1:,k maketh ofthem. Hab. 4. & this fame Aponte Heb. to: 38 ( of this we have fpoken elfe- where )13ut only in reference to the ufe, which the Aponte here maketh of them, in clearing up the way , how juflification is brought about. And considering them in this refpeä , we will have two things only to take no tice of; Firfi The affertion of ¡unification by faith. Next The Influence, that this affertion hath into the Apoftles Conclufion ; to wit, That therefore juflification is not by the Law , nor by the works of the Law, In fpeaking to the Firft , we will have occalion to fpeak both to the be- ginning, the nature & ground of this change , made in juflification, ás alto to the continuance of that hate of juflification. And then we will have occafion to Chow, how both the beginning & Continuance of juflifi- cation is by faith : for as the (inner at firlf becometh juft or is brought in= to a junified flare by faith , fo is he carried on & continneth in that flare of life, to the end: this being alwayes true, that firft& lat }, the juli li- ve rh by faith ; faith beginneth , & faith carrieth on this life , until! the junified man be glorified. The Aponte ( that we may come to fpeak fomething to cleare the na- ture of this State of juflification) is afferting juflification by faith , to cry down ;unification by the Law , or by the works of the Law, which force falle Teachers were perfwading thofe Galatians to beleeve.; & he addu- ceth a paffage of Scripture, which faith, the jufl Thall live by faith, there- by giving us to underfiand, that the jun man, or the juflified man, a living man ; for the juft liveth. And it is too narrow , to interprete this life, of eternal life; & thi!, would make the Aponles argument very ob- Teure; we mat therefore underhand it of a life begun here, which f hall cer- tainely end in glory : & this is moll confonant both to the Prophet's fcope, & to the fcope of the Apon)e here. Whence we.may gather, That in juflification by faith, there is a real life obtained : by juflification the foulais brought into a new flare of life; & by it , fuch, as were really dead, are really made alive. This may be fur- ther cleared from thefe particulars following. L Such are laid to be born again job. 3: 5. not only by the Spirii, which
