Moreover this fame truth is clear from Rpm. 5: 17. where we read of the receiving of the gift ofrighteoufnir, which is by faith, and that in order toa reigning in life by one Jefus Chrift : where alfo we fee a difference put be- twixt this-gift of Righteoufnefs & Reigning in life; which is alfo moreçlea- re, in the following verf. IS- Even fò by the righteou(nefr of one, -the free gift came upon all men unto Iu(lt frcation of life: this righteoufnefs of one , to wit, one Jefus Chrift , is the Caufe, and the juflifcation of life, is the Effedt: And further this difference is again held forth. verf. 19, 20, 21. Our being ma- de Righteous is-different from the obedience of one Chrift Jelus; and by,the Imputation of this Obedience to us, do we become Righteous , as our being made fingers is different from Adam's adt of Difobedience ; and we are ma- de linnersby the Imputation ofis to us. And as fin & death a e different, when it is laid, that fin bath reigned Unto death; fo Eternal life is different from Righteoufnefs, whey it is faid, fo might grace reìgne through righteouf- fiefs unto eternal life. 'We need fay no more of this , feing it clearly followeth , from what was formerly at length confirmed; to wit, That juilifacation is by the Righte- oufnefs of Chrift imputed. C H A P. XXXIV. Baxter did hng ago in his Aphorifines tell us; That tl?e Accpting of Chrifl for Lord, is as of %Huai a part of Juftifying Faith ass the N1R. accepting of him for our Saviour; that is, as he explained himfelf, That faith , as it accepteth Clirift , for Lord & King , doth juftifie, And this was afferted by him, to the end , he might cleare & confirme how Sin- cere Obedience cometh in with Affiance to make up the Condition of Jutli- fication; for his Thefts LXXll did run thus. As the accepting of Chrig for Lord (which is ehe hearts SubjeEion) is aseffentiala part of juflifying F aith, at the accepting of him for our Saviouí` ; So confequently fincere obedience ( which is the offal ofthe former) hath at much to do in luflifyiag us before God as Af- fiance (which is the fruit of the later. Hence the question arofe, and was by Come propofed. thus ; Whether faith in Chrift qua Lord , be the jutlifying att : or, whether the Acceptation of Chrift ,. as a Lord, and not only , as a Prieft , doth .jufifie.
