4o4 Faith in juffif. f peciail eyeth Chrift, as a Pòiel. C n A P., 34; it, is not only without any ground in God's tvord, but fully againfi it , to fay, tbdt faith ju lifiesh only , as it apprehended, Chrif , as a f anforue, or Satisfier of Ike , or Meriter of our to fat facation ; or his fQghteou f itef s as ours ; & not as it receiveth him , as king, or as a Saviour from the flame dr tyranny of fin. I have shewed before , that the moving of this quettion , is of little ufe, in reference-to that end , for which , it feemeth , it was first intended , to wit, to prove , that Sincere Obedience bath as much to do in Justification,, as faith , or Affiance bath ; where I did shew the inconfequence of that con- fequeuce. That becaufe "unifying Faith receiveth Chrift , as King; There- fore Obedience is a part of the Condition of 'unification , yea , or therefo- re a Pûrpofe , or a promï.fe of Obedience is a part of the Condition of Ju- flitication. So that , in order to the difproving of that Affertion that ma- keth obedience , or a Purpofe , or a promife of obedience an eflential part of the Condition 'of Justification we need not trouble ourfelves with this question : Yet , in regaird that the (peaking to this may contribute to the clearing of the way of Juftification by faith ( which is our great defigne) we shall (peak our judgment there anent. And in order thereunto , feveral things muff be premitted. As i. The queftion is nót, whether Chrifl, asa King, belongeth to the cornpleet & adequate olaic& of that faith , which is the true & justifying faith : )fo'r this is granted , as was shown above , this faith , being the fame faith , whether it be called True Faith , or Saving Faith , or Uniting $t Covenanting faith , or "unifying faith , it mutt have one & the fame ade- quate Objeít. 2. Nor is the Queflion , whether Faith in order to Juftification , doth fo aft on Chrift , as a Prieft, as to exclude either virtually , or exprefly , the confederation of any other of his offices , or of Chrift under any othet of his offices : for under whatever office Chrift be con fidered ; when 'faith aneth upon him, whole Chrift is received, and nothing in Chrift is or can be excludeth ; So that there is no virtual exclufion ; nor can there be any ex- prefs exclufion of any of his offices, when he, under any other of his offi- ces i s looked to a -right & received ; for Inch an exclufion would be an open rejeétion of Chrift , and no receiving of him. 3. When we (peak here of receiving of Chrift , as a Prier, refpett of his Sacerdotal Office, it is all one , as if we named his Sacerdotal work', or what he did in the difcharge of that office, offering up himfelfa Saris - fa&ory Sacrifice, and giving his blood , and life for that end, and fuffering inwardly & outwardly, what was laid upon him by the Father, in order to the making of full Satisfaction to juftice , and paying our debt , by his Righ- teoufnefs Active & Paflive. 4. Nor do we, when we (peak of Faiths acting on Chrift, as aPrieft, fo limite & reftrit't the fame unto his Sacerdotal work, as to exclude any thing, that is prefuppofed thereunto, concomitant thereof, confequential there- unto & depending thereupon , or is neceffarily requifite tinto the effeétual application of the fame unto our 'unification & Advantage. When there- fore it is_Said, that in Juftification, faith eyeth in a fpecial mariner the Sa- cer
