When we (peak of the Souls aâing faith , in order to Juftification , we do not firppofe, that at, that time , the troubled foul can, have no other end or defigne before his eyes ; nor ,be troubled with soother evil, or with the thoughts thereof, that h.eewould be delivered from; and fo in order to get- ting help therein and a remedie thereof, cannot eye force thing elfe in Chrift , anfwering & fuiting the fame : for a Sinner in that cafe, maybe troubled with the fenfe of the great Unbeleef& Hardnefs & Impenitency of hisheart, the Unholinefsof all his way es, his Blindnefs & Ignorance ; as well as with the fenfe of his Guilt , and of his being under the Curfe; and fo may & muff be fuppofed , in coming to Chrift for reliefe, to eye in a fpe:i vial manner , that in Chrifi, which is anf weralile to thefe his NecefIities And in this refpea, a Sinner may be laid to go to Chrift, as a Prophet and asaKing, as well as to him, as a Prieft; Bit in reference to thefe evils, they are not faid or fuppofed to go- to Chrift , for Juftification; for that re- fpeCteth merely their (late of Sin & Guilt. 6. But the real queftion should be , what is the fpecial .& pra&ical mea- ning of thefe words , we are jufli fled , or live by faith : and to this end , the true Queftion is, what fpecial way doth faith at on Chrift ( for it is here pre - fuppofed, that Chrift mutt be theObjetof juftifyingFaith ) in order to the finners Juflification ? or what is that in Chrift , that faith fpecially eyeth, and carrieth the foul out unto, when Juflification before God is only defig- tied ? Or when the wakened (inner is earneltly defireous of delivery from the Guilt of fin & from the Curfe of God , and of en joyir., the Favour & Re. conciled Face of God , whether he is to apply himfely faith unto Chrift, as King , or unto Chrift , as a Prieft & to what he did as aPrieft , for the re- liefe of (inners ? In anfwere to the Qaeftion thus propofed , I fay, That the wakened (in- ner, in that cafe, while feeking reliefe from fin & guilt, and from the cur - fe, by Abfolution & juftification, in the fight of God , is compliance with the Gofpel methode & defipne , making Juflification robe by faith , & in obedience to the Gofpel command , laying., Beleeve & be juttified, is toad faith in a fpecial manner on Chrift's Mediation & SatisfaEtion; & CO betake himfelf to Chrift as a Prieft, and reft on him &On what he di as a Prieft, that is, on his death , Bloud, and Satisfadtion.
