C H A P. 3+ like relating to his Prieftly office , we may faifly judge , that the one , being fo clearly mentioned & fo frequently , is a denying of the other , that is ne- ver mentioned. Secondly, The very cafe &condition , wherein fuch are, who are defire- aas of juffifi:ation , may cleare this : for they are now awakened , & made to fee their natural Bate of death , wherein they are under the fentence of the Law , under the Curfe & Malediction of God : And therefore the thing, which their foul now feeketh afer , is a futable Reliefe , fomething that may anfwere this cafe and may prove a fit Reliefe tothem thus imprifoned, &inchaines, becaufeof their Debt &Traosgreflìons: And therefore , as all Reafon requireth ; fo experience proveth, that thefe wakened ¡inners leek after the Satisfaction through the Death & Merites of Chriff that they may have an Interefl therein , and thebeiiefite thereof, to the quieting of their fouls ; They lay hold on the Sufferings of Chriff , that they may be hid in his wounds ( as it were ) that fo they may be healed by his flripes; and have a Righteoufnefs , under which they may with confidence Eland , and appear before God ; They become crucified with Chrifl, fweetly acquief- ceingin, reffingfatisfied with, contentedly aceeptiing of, and confidently refling & relying upon, his Merites , his Death , his Payment & Snti<fa&ion to juffice. Seing then, that this ( as experience proveth ) is the way , that purfued fouls rake , to refuge themfelvesunder a Crucified Chriff , to flee to his Death& Merites, this, or Chrif} asaPrieff dying& paying the debt, muff be the fpecial Ob}eá of the Faith of an hunted foul, panting after julli- :fication , or freedom from Condemnation. Thirdly, Chrift's other Offices, as his Kingly or Prophetical office, do not hold him forth, as immediatly futable unto fouls under this prefhure; nor is there any thing properly belonging to thefC offices, that promifeth im- mediat Reliefe unto a Soul , in this cafe , feeking after Reconciliation with God, & Pardon of finners, which is only had by Chrifi's Death & Blond Rpm. 5: 9, 14 & 3: 25. Ephef. a: 7. Col. I: 14. Chriff by his Kingly or Pro- phetical office, doth not at towards God , in the behalfe of (inners , buttby his Priefffly office he Both Heb, 5: 1, 5, 6, 7. And it is after this, that poor (inners, purfued_with the fenfe of wrath, do feek, & this can only give pre- fent & futable Reliefe. Fourthly. The Faith of Beleevers under the fenfe of fin & guilt, under the Law , was thus led toad on the promifed Mefïìah , when he was typified unto them by their Sacrifices & they were to pur their hands on the head of the Sacrifice, thereby , rolling their fin & guilt upon the Sacrifice, or on Him rather , who was the true Sacrifice , reprefented by thefe outward Sa- crifices , & thereby profeffing their Faith in Him , as the only Satisfying Sacrifice, that could make Atonement, & Pacifie an angrie God , & deliver them from wrath. Fiftly, Chrift is held forth, as having taken an thefe different offices, and as to shew his being a full &compleet mediator , able to anfwere all our ne- cefiìties, and asauthorized to give forth futable reliefe; fo to inffruéf us how to goe unto him , & to at faith upon him futablie, with hope & confidence, There-
