Evinceth, that right coming to Chriít is inconlffent with a= predominant Love to any.terrene thing, howneer &<dear fo ever : But tou- cheth not the queftion now in hand. Faith is the only Condition on our part , of the conti- nuance of juíhification, HAving fpoken of fufíification, as to its beginning , or as to a l3elee- vers entering into that State of Life : & having fpoken to fome Que- ffions for further clearing of the truth : We come to fpeak a word or two of the Continuance of this Privilege & State: That it is a continueing and permanent State, we have feen above. The Qüeftion then , that we have to difcufs, is, Upon what termes & Conditions is this State conti- nued ? or what is it , which the Lord requireth in order thereunto ? or whe- ther any thing more be required of us for conrinueing this Relation than was at firff required to 'the making of it ? that is whether Faith alone,. or Faith together with Works of fincere obedience. Mr. Baxter in his Confef: p. ¢7. n. 40. tels us , that thereirmuch more goeth to the continuing ¿r confitm- mating our tuflification, then doth` at firfl to juflifie us as to the conditiorton our parts, to be performed to that end: This Continueing of our State of ?uflifcatìon, & Not -1 fingofit, he maketh one & the fame, and that, which he requireth,. as neceffàry unto the Not -lofing or Continueing of this State , he maketh ro- be Sincere obedience , & many particular materials of that obedience , as to be, humble , to forgive others , to con/eft Chriß , d7 (n r for him , if called to it. Thar we may know both the State of the difference, & the Confequence thereof, we would premit thefe things. I.
