' And next, all this is more clear by Chrift's fuffering the very fame, that we were to fuffer , than by laying that he fuffered force other thing ; The móft clear demonftration of the Gover- ning juftice of God was in exaaing of Chrift the full penalty, & the very fame punishmeut both in Soul & Body , that the Law of God made due unto tranfgreffours No other thing could give fuch a demonfiration hereof , jut !lice could not have required more; and juftice had not fully been demon. firated by exacting lefs : and the exaäing of the very fame , both as to Kin.. de , and as to degrees keeped a juft correfpondence with the requifìre de- monftration of the Governing juftice of God. Hereby alto was his Holinefs Wifdorn & Mercy, whereby he attained the ends of the Law & Govern- ment , moft clearly manifefted , when he did not execute the Law upon the finful world , but upon the fubflituted Cautioner , that the Elea world might be Paved: This, I am fore , was evidently a full falvo to Gods juftice, when the fame punishment was paid down, that Law & juftice called for. Not that God might give pardon if life to (inners upon the new termer of the Co- venant of Grace (as he fpeaketh n. S3.) for that looketh too like the Armi- saian Satisfation as if nothing but a pofïìbility & freedom were here obtai- ned for God to beftow pardon & life , upon Inch conditions ; whereby not - withflanding of this Satisfaaçion , it might come to paffe, that not one should be Caved. Therefore I judge it faifeft to fay. That juftice wasf'o fatisfied , as that all fuch , for whom the Satisfalion was given, shall in due time, and according to God's own method, certain- ly receive both pardon & life , both grace & glory , both grace to be- leeve in Chrift, and all the other graces that follow thereupon , with life eve:lafting.
