But never the fulfilling of the Gofpel Conditions that we may have part inChrifl. Anf. Whether the wo ks of the Law , which Paul excludeth , be fo to be underffood or not , we have Peen above : only I fay , now , that both fpeak of the fame Law , that is , the Mon al Law & both confequently fpeakof the fame obedience, that is obedience to the fame Law : And nothing can be alledged to prove that Paul meaneth works as taken for the fulfilling of the Cot:ditions of the Law ourfelves & gamer meaneth the fame works as taken for the fulfilling of the Conditions of the Gofpel ourfelves. And further , the faith that 7arner fpeaketh fo much of, is none of the Gofpel Conditions of juflificat.ion , for it is but a dead carcafs , &an unprofitable thing. But his following words , Paying. Indeed if a man should obey the commands of the Gofpel with a legal intent that obedience should be but legal chew that by the works of the Law he meaneth tome thingin oppo- fition to the commandsof the Gofpel , wherein he joineth with Socinianr. Anf. This is all very true , & flue , he muff alfofay , that to be juilified by Chrift , & to be ju- ffified by works , is not all one , for all obedience or works is not receiving of Chrift. But now , what doth dames dired us to by the word Faith , which he mentioneth ? cloth he not direEt our thoughts to Chrift belceved in ? If not , it cannot be juflifying Faith, he fpeaketh of, as Mr. Baxter fuppofeth. If yea , why doth he adde works more than Paul cloth ? Shall Paul's direEfing our thoughts to Chrift beleeved in, exckide works, and ,a- mer's direófin.g our thoughts the fame way include them ? Where is then the agreement ? .
