C H A P. 9. Againff the Imputation of chrifßs oetive obedience. 51-7 ked to Chrifl's (offerings only ; for thefe , as fuch are not a Righteoufnefs, as hath been oft laid, & the contrary bath never yet been proved , though it be the maine ground of all. Arg. 11. We are pertec`t & compleat in Chi-if' Col. 2: 10. He Anf. Chriß ma kerb us perfcá in jußifying, fanflifying d^'glorifyingur, by the imputationefbis pafJive obedience only. 43n4; This is but to a&fert the thing, that isa difproving : we fay , we cannot be juflified , without the imputa tion of a compleat Righteoufnefs, becaufe in juftification we receive a right to life , & this cannot be had , according to the Conflirutionof .God,` do this dT live , till the Law he fatisfied by obedience , & becaufe we could not do it , we mull have it in & from Chrift, in whom we are compleat , &; have all, we need. Arg. 12. Chrift hath delivered us from all our debt , both of yeelding per - fed obedience, & of (offering for difobedience Col. 2 14. He Anf. He denyeth this , & fayeth; Chriß hath not delivered us from giving perfeE obedience , for we remaine obliged :hereunto , d9 wherein we come short it ac pardoned for his fatisfatiton impute? to us , & it is piece e piece made up by be- gunholinefs, which hereafter shall be perfetled. Arf. This loofeth not the force of the argument ; for though we be obliged to keep the Law in all points , yet we are nor under that obligation , by verrue of the Old Covenant , fo that the leafl breach should fruflrate us of heaven , & fo as the reward should be of debt , andof this obligation the Argument is to be underflood : Now becaufe , by vertue of this Covenant , which mutt be fatisfied , we cannot partake of the prize, becaufe it is violated, therefore , it mutt be fatisfied by the perfect obedience of another , of our Surety , which muff be impti- ted unto us , in order to life ; for all our begun fanótiftcation will not avail us; & Chrilt's fatisfyiug by his fuffering, according to that, that day thou eats,, thou shalt die, doth not w:than fatifie that other part of the Law, do this l live. Arg. 13. We muff not only not be unjuf& , but we mull be juft, if we would have life eternal. Therefore Chrift's Righteoufnefs mutt be imputed, as well as his death. He An f denying the Confeq. And faith. We are freedfrom the Curfe oftheLa, ,áy ußification, whereby the Paf ive Righteoufnefs cfChriß is imputed to us : Cu- rity is begun in us in Sanllificatson. An(. By jufltfication we have no Righte- oufnefs imputed to us , for we mull be Righteous, before we be juflified; & therefore mutt have a Righteoufnefs imputed before. (2) Our begun San tíy fication , is no nrchafe of the reward of life (3) delivery from the Curie, is but a freeing us from punishment ,, or from the guilt of punishment , but this is nothing but a being not unjufl, as Adam was before he fell; It is not a being pofitivly juft , in order ro the reward for to this is required compleat obedience to the Law, & that unto the end in which refpeét Adam was ne- ver juft , having never finished his courfe ofobedience, that he might have bad a right unto the rewardpromifed , I mean in himfelf.
