That our hope of the Lord's good will, & of lite is not by our wo, ks, nor in our Righteoufnefs, but only in the mercy of God , forgiving iniquities, Fault() the f otn. confirmeth by the teftimtune of David proving to us , that we may lean to no other Righteoufnefs, but that which he affirmeth to be imputed to us without our works. -- He faith pot blefled are they , who are Righteous before God by their own works; bleffed is the man, that bath done no iniquity; but biefled are they , whole iniquities are mer- cifully pardoned , whofe fins he covereth, and hideth with his own Righ- teoufnefs. In him ( that is, Chrif}) there- fore are we ;unified before God , not in ourfelves ;, not by our own but by his Righteoufnefs , which is imputed to us , when now we communi cat with him. Being void of a Righteoufnefs of our own he teacheth us to Peek a Righteoufnefs, without ourfelves ; in him , when he faith he made him fin for us, who knew no fin, that is, he made him afacrifice for fin, that we might be made the Righteoufnefs of God in him. By what Law ? By that of friendship , which maketh a community of all things among friends, according to the old & well known proverb. Being infrt into Chrifl glued & united, unto him , he maketh what is his to be ours , he communicateth unto us his riches, he interpofeth his Righteoufnefs betwixt the Fathers judgment & our unrighteoufnefs, and under it, as under a shield, he hideth , defendeth , & piote ieth us from God's wrath, which we had de- ferved ; Yea at length giveth it to us, & maketh it otir; ; with which being covered & adorned , we may boldly & faifly GEE ourfelves before the Tribunal of God., and we not only appear Righteous, but allo are Righteous.
