Arguments again(! Univerfal Redemption. And though there were a Condition of the Lords working of Faith aligned, ( which yet we finde not in Scripture ) yet that would not help the mat- ter for that Condition of Faith would it felt be a mean to falvation , and fo purchafed Conditionally , upon another Condition , and that ether Condition mull be purchafed upon another Condition , & fo in infinitum whichisabfurd. As alto (35.) this is confrderable, That the affertingof Univerfal Redem- ption goeth not alone ; but there are feveral other Univerfalities alto affir- med, and maintained , either as Confequences or Concomitants , or Grounds thereof, which the Scripture knoweth ncit: fuch as thefe. (1.) An Univerfal Love & Philanthropie , towards all & every one , without any difference : which they lay down , as the ground ofthe Sending of Chrift to die for allindifcritninat1v. (z.) An Univerfal Will in God to fave all, which they call an Antecedent ; and hold forth as a Velleity , or a wish & deli - re , that all might be faved ; as if God could not effeEtnat whatever he defi- red , or could have a velleity towards any thing , which either he could not, or would not effe&uat. (3.) An Univerfal PredeRination conditional ; which exprefïion A-merald ufed until' the Sy nods in France did diffwade him there- from. (4.) An Univerfal gift of all to Chrift, or an Univerfal gift of Chrift to all ; that is , a Will & purpofe that Chrift should lay down his life for all, and Redeem all; at leaft Conditionally. (5.) An Univerfal Juftification con- ditional. And why not alto an Univerfal Salvation conditional ? (6.) An Univerfal Covenant of Grace made with all mankinde in Adam , wherein is a free univerfa! deed of gift of Chrift firft , and of Pardon , Spirit & Glory, in & by him , to all Mankinde without exception , upon condition of acce- ptance ; as alto an offer of Faith , Repentance , Converfion , with all the confequences thereof. (7.) An Univerfal will in God to call into this Cove. nant , and unto the Participation of the benefites thereof, all &every man. (8.) An Univerfal execution of this will, or promulgation of this.Gofpel or New Covenant , unto all & every one , by common favours & benefites be- flowed on all , whereby all are called to believe in a merciful pardoning God ; and all have abundance of Mercies & Meanesof Recovery & of life; for the Lord now governeththe world, only on termes of grace. (9.) Upon this followeth an Univerfal Command to all men to ufe certaine duties & meanes for their Recovery by Faith & Repentance. (t o.) An Univerfal pardon of the firfl Sin, fo far, at leaft, that no man shall perish for the meer Original fin of Nature alone, unlefs he adde the rejecdion of grace. (1Y.) Hence fol- loweth an Univerfal Judgment & Sentence on all, in the great day, only according as they have performed the new Gofpel Conditions. (ii.) So- me alto adde an Lniverfal SubjeEtive Grace, whereby all are enabled to performe the conditions of the new Covenant. ( 13. ) Univerfal proper Fruits & EffeEts of this death , whereby all the outward favours, that Hea- thens enjoy are laid to be purchafed for them by Chrift ; & why not allo what Devils enjoy ? Finally (36.) This affertion of Univerfal Redemption layeth the ground of,. & maketh way to a new frame of the Covenant of Grace a quite overtt rnin;
