THe former part of theÇhapter is vine, elegant and copious in defcribing a dayof darknefs, of thick darknefs ; that is, a dayof Gods judgements, and his fierce anger. The appearance of them, is as the appearance of harfemen, and like the noife of chariotsupon the mountains fish they leap e Thus God many times ufeth the vileft and molt loathfom creatures, to puntfhthe ftouteft and molt lofty men; for as they fay of Gods providence and wifdom in making of the creatures, he is Maximum inminimal, thegreatelt in the leaft ; fo is he motedreadful and terrible,in the molt contemptible initruments. Caterpillars and Locals are loathfom to them ; let their fins be fo,which are indeedthe true Cankerworms that deltroy their mercies t This judgement wouldmake the earth and heavens to tremble, verf to. let it work fo upon their hearts. As God would punilh them with thevileft of creatures, fo let them be more vile in theirown eyes, thenmonfters andbeads : If they would have God turn away his judgements, let them turn from their fins.
