For neewy are called, but few are chafn. THe perlonscalled byGod, who yet are not chofen, are of two forts, as you heard : Firfl, Thofe, who, though fo gracioufly invited, do yet obftinatelyand peremptorilyrefufe, and thefe are aâively onely called on Gods part. The fecond fort is of thofe whodo give confent, and yeild to their call, but becaufe they donot rife up fullyto all that is required, thereforethey arecall away. In this rank is the man, who being invited, made no oppolition or es- . cute, but went in, and fate down at the frail, was as confident as the other guells, feemethtobe confcious to himfelfofno fault, but having no wedding garment, themailer Is fo wroth anddifpleafed with him, that he isadjudged to everlafting torments and from this inflame our Saviour gathers this con- ciufion in theTest ; fo thatthe meaning is, Of thofemany that are called, and givea general acceptance of it, yet few are chofen-to eternal glory: Thofe enjoy the feall of the Ordinances here, who are tobe tormented for ever here- after ; thofe arc admitted toeat inGods prefence here, who (hallbe command- ed todepart from him hereafter, he knoweth them not Many are admitted into the Temple, that maynot enter intothe holielt ofholies. objerv. That many of thole who are called, and in many things slay, doyet come 'host in that Which is abfolutely necc fary. He that comes to the frail, was not guilty of fach rebellion, as they that oppofed, and inhumanely handled theMeffengers; yet becaufe he did not pre- pare the Wedding-Garment, which is a converfation and life fumble to the outward profeffìonof Chrift, therefore he is call away: This is a neceffary truth ; for though we have many Chrillians, yet we have indeed but few: Though all in the Land come and fit down at the, frail, yet we may fay to mane, Friends, hose cameye in here? How came you to profefs Chrift? how came you ea fai' you are Chriflians? What? fach a finner, fuch an ungodly peon, and yet fay, You believe in Chrift, you love Chrift?
