Gofel- Converfatlon, 99 thren, what were thefe daies, and months, and times, and seers ? they were fuch as God heretoforehad appointed, but now they wereceafed, after Chrifl came, out of date, and yet they flicking to them after the death ofChrift ( faith the Apo. file) I profels I am afraid ofyou, that all my preaching is in vain to you: Now my brethren, what !hall we fay to thofe that flick upon thefe things that God had never appointed, but were of Popiíh ordination : As keeping one time more holy than ano- ther, and thinking thereby to tender up fervice toGod : Why fhould we not keep the memory offuch and fuch times ? Now as to keep them fo as to thinkthat they (hall fanaife any time, is a dangerous thing,a fign that they underfland the Gofpel but lit- tle, to thinkthat any men upon any reafon whatídever fhould be able to fantifie a time, to make that time to be holy, (I fay) that's unbefeeming the Gofpel; no man can make a holy day un- der the Gofpel. Becaufe the time loth fanc`hifie the duty, being fee apart by God : As in the Temple, the duty was more accep- table than. in any other place; why ? becaufe it was fet apart by God ; but we cannot make any place holy, and fo no time holy : fo that our dayes of fa (ling & thankfgiving are only thus, that we wil fpend that time in holy duties to humble our felves, or to blefs God, but not to make this time holy, fo that the duty fhould be holy becaufe it s on this day rather than on ano- ther day; that's the fuperflttion of it, when a duty fhould be holy rather on this day than on another ; as now, fume they think its amore holy thing to receive the Lords Supper on an Eller day than on another day; this is fuperflition, to think P2, the
