The fecond is, That our Converfations'mffí befuck is Is beyond fuch as live under the Law, for the LawofGod goes higher than the light ofNature, for there's more reveal'd there than in the light ofNature. It's true, that that youcall the moral Law, the light ofNature, if it be deer it is finable to it, to the molt part of it, only there is fome part that is pofitive, but molt part is butfutable to the principles ofNature if they were deer and pure ; but now becaufe,fince the fall ofMan,the light of Nature is darkned, and the principles of Nature are much corrupted, therefore God bath given His Law, that is :as it were a glafs of His Will, that is, the deer glafs of what was written in the heart of man in Innocencie, that's the Law : Only there is that ofthe limitation of the feventh Day particularly from the Cre- ation that bath fomewhat pofitive in it, but take all the other and (I fay) it is nothing but as a glafs of what was written in the heart ofman in the time of Innocency : There waswritten in mans heart tokeep fome folemn time for the worfhip ofGod, only the fpecificationwas by revelation, but the fubltance ofall thofe ten Commandements (I fay) is the glafs of what was written in the heart ofman in Innocency : And becaufe God faw that this writing was fomuch blotted out, almolt all obli- terated, therefore God wrote it in Tables ofhone, whereas it was written in the Table of mans heart at first But now when He comes tobring men to the Gofpel there He writes over that Law again in the Tables of their hearts : At first it was written in the heart ofAdam, but he falling, cloth blot it out in a great meafure, then God writes it over fair again, but how ? He writes it over in a fair Copie, but it is in Tables of hone : but when God receives any foul in the Gofpel He writes it over a- gain in the Tables of their hearts; Now this gives you a little hint of the difference between the Law and the Gofpel, be- tween the Converfations of men that were meetly Legal, arid the Converfaton that is Evangelical : but the opening of it to threw the-difference between the Law and theGofpel in refe- rence to this, and to ¡hew_ how low the Converfationwas that was
