Thus to me- ditate, Lord I am lefs, I am lefs than the leaff of all thy mer- cies , yet here is feafonable comfortablemercies to me and mine &c. but O Lord what is all this to that infinite fountain ofmer- cy in Chriff, thy mercies in the Gofpel, thy mercies in thy Son, there's depths, infinite depths of mercy indeed, this is but a drop, and indeed that's fweet, but the infinite Ocean of mercy it is in Jefus Chriff, Chriff is the mercy of God toman- kind, in the bowels of which all other mercies are conceived and brought forth in the world : All my freíh fprings both up- per and neather fprings are in him, who is All in All. Oh it were a good argument that the Gofpel is revealed to you, if you admire at Jefus Chriff as the great mercy ofall mercies, though thankful for every mercy, yet whenyou come to con- fider of themercy ofChriff, look upon thatas mercy ofwonder, (land amazed at the thought of that mercy ; well it's theGof- pel that holds forth the gloryofthe riches ofthe mercy of God, God is faid in the word to be rich in mercy, He is not Paid fo much to be rich in power as rich in mercy. Now what Conver- fation is futable to this ? What's that but as Chriff himfelf faith, Be ye merciful as your heavenly father is merciful, Oh haveyou a merciful heart one towards another ? lookwith a merciful eyeupon thofe who are in great mifery ; this is it that becomes the Gofpel ofJefus Chriff ; Oh a harfh, rugged, and cruel difpofition it is infinite- ly unbefeeming the Gofpel of Chriff : To fee a Chriffian, one that profeffes the Gofpel, that makes more profeflion ofthe knowledg
