For thisJima every n.an that tsgodly pray unto thee in a time when thoumaif befound ; as ifDavid in this language fpake thus,0 all you poor finners,that fin againft God, think it an eafie matter to get pardon of fin ; know, I have found it otherwife,it coal me dear before I could get affurance of pardon ; and there- fore for this caufe let every one that is acquainted with the wayes of God, feek to God in due time, and not put it off front time to time, for thebufinefs is not fo flight to put it off : many abufe the example of David, and think becaufe he finned, they may take liberty to fin, but they confider not what abundance of farrow it colt him to get his pardon ; it coil him fo much as that he tells them,for this caufe every one fhall fee's, God in due time : many think they may put it off till any time ; but mirk what David fays,For this cearife every man that isgodly )1411fee thee in time when thou mail befound ; he does not fay, I have found mercy in the pardoning of my great fins, and for this caufe men fhall be bold to put it off to any time; no, but for this caufe thofe that are godly, and have any acquaintance in the wayes of God, will feek God in a time that he may be found ; and if thofe that are godly, that have fin pardoned in the Court of Heaven find fo hard a matter ofit to get it pardoned in their own Confcience; ; how does it concern thee that perhaps haft thy fin neither pardoned in the Court of Heaven, nor in thy own Confcience, But art in thegall ofbitternefs and bondof iniqui- ty, how concerns it thee CO look to it ? that is a third fort that abufe the mercy ofCod in having flight thoughts of the pardon of fin. Fourthly, rhofi thatfeek,for pardon but are infenfìble of the greatnefs ofthe work ofGod in pardoning they do not put it off, but feek it for the prefent,but how? with extream unfenfiblenefs ; theydo not come before God with brokennefs, trouble and con trition offpirit in feeking after pardon offin;many they repeat of their fins before God,and have a gift ofPrayer, it is that which would make a mans heart to tremble,to confider howmany have a great gift in Prayer, and will be praying halfan hour, and will repeat abundance of their fins, make Catalogues, and tell large flories of their fins, bring in all the aggravations againft them for their fins ; judge themfelves , and fpeak mighty words ?oì against
