on the Excellency of aril!. 11 3 take this along with you , that God expe&s that thole that do fee his glory in Chrifl:, fhould glorifie him in another manner than thofe that fee his glory onely fhining in the Works of Creation and Providence; that as there is much difference between the fhimng of the Sun in its full llrength, and a Glow -worm , even fo there fhould bee as much difference between beleevers glorifying God, and heathens , as there is between the Glow-worm , and the glory of the Sun ; you fhould not fatisfie your felf except you finde that there is fume fuch proportionable difference; for certainly if you have feen God in Chrift , you have een him wonderfully indeed ; therefore in z Cor.3.1 3. faith the Apo (tle , But wee all with open, face beholding as in a glafs the glory of the Lord, are changed into the fame image, from glory to glory, even Au 0, the Spirit of the Lord. This Scripture bath very much in it , hee fpeaks of the Gofpel, and compares that to a Glafs, wherein the glory of God alines , fo as wee may behold it with open face, and fo be- hold it, as that we are changed into the very fame image of it,from glory to glory,from one degree unto another. Wee may behold the glory of God in the glafs of the creature, and never bee changed into the fame image; but when wee behold the glory of God in the glafs of the Gofpel , wee then come to bee changed into the fame Image , and (till to bee changed more and more; and with open face wee do behold it. And in chap.4. verf.6. For God who com- manded the light to fhine out of dark efs, hath fhined into our hearts, to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jefru C hrig. Mark it , hee is the knowledge of God , the light of the knowledge of God and the light of the knowledge of the glory of God; and all this is, in the face of Jefus Chrift ; in the face of the creature there may bee the knowledge of God, but the light of the knowledge of the glory of God, this is in the face of Jefus Chrift.
