248 On the Exccdlencq of the Soul. Counfels of God about his works and wayes that bee hath had from all eternity to bee revealed unto , fo far as con- cerna it , and as any way may make it happy : To live to fee what the wayes of God have been from all ederniry, and what they fhall bee to all eternity,and that for the good of this foul , that it may bee for ver in his prefence , and to Hand and look upon his face, al d fee him as the portion of it , Oh this mull needs bee a glorious thing Certainly if the prefence of God put fuch a glory upon the heavens, it muff needs put abundance of glory upon the fowl that (halt (land immediately alwayes in leis prefence : To have eternal communion with God,that is, to have the inibrace- ments of God, imbracing the foul , and delighting himfelf in it above all other his works , but onely the Angers and his Son; delighting, I fay,himfelf in the foul, and imbracing ie , communicating and letting out himfelf in all his luflre and glory when het fhall have enlarged the foul to bee able` ro the uttermoft to receive in that glory that hee harsh to communicate : And for him to converfe with the fouls o£ men to all eternity in a familiar Cwav, as one friend with another ; and for the foul to bee letting out its felf again to nod, far that is in communion' , there rs Gods letting out himfelf to it , and its letting out its felf again to God ; now , I fay , it is the greateft delight to what God bath in himfelf, his Son, and Spirit, and Angels, the letting out of himfelf to the fouls of men (thofe that fhall bee Paved:) And on the other fide , it mutt needs bee an infinite de- light to the foul alwayes to ,bee letting out it felf upon God ,. as now , what delight do men take in eating and drinking ? now if - there bee' inch .delight from the humour in the palat meeting with a peece of meat in the möuth, becaufe of the fuitablenefs between one ()Neel and another?
