on the Excellency of the Soul. 255 him eternally, then, as I may fay, thou thalc have thy belly full of fin, thou then fhait bee fully given up unto fin, Rev. 16 . i t . And they blafphemed the God of Heaven, becaufe of their pains and farrows : Now that is fpoken of the beaft , of Antichria ; but if men here blafpheme God becaufe of pains, what fhall they do that are damned in Hell ? they that fhall have the vials of Gods wrath poured out upon them? But you will ask, how cloth it appear that for the wicked to bee given up to fin is fuch an evil unto them , whereas here it is their delight to commit fin ? To which I anfwer, though they love fin, and though fin bee their de- light here, yet hereafter, when they are call off from God for ever , then they !hall not finde that delight in fin, as now they do : as to give you it in an example, put a fiih into. a pot of water, and the Hi doth fwim, and play, and delight therein, becaufe it is the proper element of the fish to bee in the water; but now , if you do but put fire under that pot of water wherein the fi4E doth play and take de- light, why then that which was before the delight and ele- ment of the fiai, thereby becomes its pain and torture : fo, though fin in this life is delightful unto wicked men , be- caufe it is their proper element to bee in fin in this life, yet hereafter fin (hall bee their pain, becaufe then there shall beetnixt with it the wrath of God, which will make it pain and torture. Again, the lofs of the foul confias ín this, when the foal is fully poffeífed of all theevils that a re. con- trary to all the good it is capableof: Thus ¡hall it be with the loffoul eternally: That as the Saints fhall bee inlarged and made tn&e capable of good;- which they hhall enjoy to all eternity : fo, thofe than are wicked and loft fouls, which !halt bee oppo= ise to God, shall bee inlarged in their capacities, and bee polfeffed, and made capable of all contrary evils. Firf+, To bee call under the eternal curie of God, I fay, to bee eternally ,under the curie of the Atinigh- ty. Secondly, Tö have all the faculties of the foul to bee filled.
