t.)Wount Tabor thought , to be the fountain. II place had : Shall fo many thoufand foules perish for want of knowing God and Chrift becaufe they have not a confecrated place. It's a very fad thing to confider of : This Mountaine (if it be Mount Tabor, as I find both Jerome and others think it was) was as ill a place as a Play-Houfe could be ; where Chrift preached this Sermon : and a place that was like to be abufed to much fuperftition and Idolatry ; I fired in the pro - phefieofHofea, mention of this place ; Chap. 5. v, t. Hear ye this O Priefls, and hearken ye houfe Ifrael, and give ye ear O houfe of the King : for judgement is towards you, becaufe Je have been a pare on Mizpah, and a net fpread upon Tabor. The meaning of it is this, That when the I o Tribes had fallen off from the true worship ofGod in the Temple at f erufalem, and fet up their Calves in Dan and Bethel, there were fome that were more Godly and ftri6 then others, and they could not be content to worship there, but theymúft needs goe to worship at f ern falem : But now the Lawes of the King and the Priefts were againft it, and no man could be fuffered to worship at ferufalem but it was upon his perill, but yet there would many goe, therefore the Priefts and others, fet watchers to watch thofe that did go ug -- into ferufalem toworihip, as heretofore there have been men fet to watch when men went from their Parifh Churches. Though they had no preaching at home, fo there were watches fet upon Mount Tabor to watch thofe that went to ferufalem, for they were to go by that place, and therefore it is faid, that there was a Net fpread tspon 7 abor. Surely this place was prophaned as much as any place could be, and yet for all that, Chrift he goes and preaches this Sermón upon Mount Tabor. It was as wicked a worke to fet watchmen to fpy out thofe that went to the true worship of God to ferufalem, as it was to make a play, and yet I fay, Chrift comes and preaches here upon the Mountaine. And fo for any fuperftition in places, the Synagogues of the so Tribes, and the places that they fet up for their fervice, and for teaching, they were abufed exceedingly, for they fet them up in oppofition to the true worfhip ofGod in.ferufalem: and yet Chrift would preach in every place according as he C a came
