74 Comfort to the godly poore. What Comfort there is in the Confideration of the éftate of the Metlìahs Coming into the world , what Incouragement there is in This to thole that are poore in fpirit, and how they in particular come to be made happy, that's the fco3e of this Sermon,and the (cope of Chrift : - ---Now then for the open- ing of this, £ [hall cafi it into thefe three heads. Firfc, What Comfort thofe that are outwardly poore, poore people that have fpirits iutable to their outward Con- ditions, that are Godly poore,whofe fpirits are willing to fub- mit to God in that poore Condition that they are in, ( what Incouragement they can have from the (late of the Metlìras, from this kingdome cf Heaven: ) And .I rather thinke that Chrift Intended this becaufe I find in the 6 Lke that Chrift loth oppofe the rich in this world to poore in fpirit, There- fore Chrift Intended certainly in this Scripture to fpeak Com- fortable words to Godly poore people. And then fecondly , To thofe that are poore in parts,poore men and women that have meane gifts and abilities, and yet are Godly, and their fpirits are low in Conúderation of the poore parts that they have,, that they cannot be ufefùll for God as others are : To !'hew what good they have or what Com- fort they may have from this kingdome of Heaven. Thirdly , Thofe that are poore in Grace , that are fencible of their fpirituall poverty, what blefï'edneife they have from this kingdome of Heaven. Firs} then, thole that, are outwardly poore, all Godly poore people, I am fpealting to them ,- and I verily thinke Chrift fpeakes to them, and fo would have his Mïnifters to fpeake to. them, fuch as are for the outward eftate kept low and meane, and yet God gives them fpirits to.fubmit to his hand in that, "and are willing to honour God as they are able in that poore Condition, without murmuring. Chrif },Jefus doth pronunce you blefped this. day, and tells you that yours is the kingdome of Heaven ; As if he, fhould fay, be not you difcouraged be- 'caufe you are meane in this world For,your fpirits being fu- table to that Condition God hash put you in, the Lord hath appointed a kingdome,for you,even the kingdome of Heaven.
