104 The Excellency of Religion. which feemes to be the moil contrary to mirth. Blefjèd are thofe that nourne for they fhall be comforted. If the enemies íhould prevaile againll you, and you were under their power, yet be- ing godly that dorh not take away your bleifedneife If your bodies be fick and in grievous paines, yet 1h11 you may be blelfed being godly If you have loft your friends,yet bleffed Rill, be not thy therefore and afraid of godlinefle, becaufe it perhaps brings fome trouble to you, and forrow to you, many men and women they are afraid to be godly,why, becaufe they fear it will take away their joy, but be nor gulld with this temptation, 'tis true Religion may bring force other forrowes then thou hadfl before, it may be thou mayefl fuffer more in the caufe of God then before, and thou comefl to be more aflti&ed for thy fin then before, it's true Religion may bring force outward forrowes and aficcions more, but there's a- boundantly more comforts then forrowes, therefore be not a- fraid to be one of Chrifls mourners, for Chrifl hath engaged himfelfe unto thee that thou "shalt be comforted : As we read concerning Egypt, as there were more venemous creatures there then in other countryes, fo there was in no country more antidotes to cure them then in theirs, fo though Religion may bring forrowand trouble,yet there is nothing brings more cure and more helpe.
