The comforts of mourners for fn, little comfort there can be to thee, but nJw when thou goefi to God in the mediation of his Son, and in the way of the Co- venant of grace, didftthou but underftrnd what the Covenant of grace means, that the Lord now had ter a part fome peoj le, not to deale with them as in rhemfelves, but bath fart his Son to come and make f :isfiCtion, and all the wages of God to- wards them (hall be th, ough his Son, anHi all their wages to- wards God (hall be accepted through his Son. This would be a great helpe and comfort to them, upon the fall of Adam our condition was fuch as God might have for ever teje& &ed us, fa as not to have had any regard to any mourning for fin, but it is through the purchafe of the blood of Chrift that mourning for fin is regarded by God,.thou hall not to deale with God as thou art in thy felfe but as through his Son, who bath tendered up to the Father his;fi,rrowes for thy foule. Thirdly, Know that Jefus Chrift hash made a fufficient a- tonement for fin ; That is, the Lord Jefus Chrift bath made up all the wrongs that ever fin bath done to God ; The Lord bath not fuffered more prejudice by thy fin, then he barb had honour through the fufferings of Chrift for fin;thy fin hail been very vild, and bath wronged God exceeding much, but the Lord Jefus bath fatisfied for all that wrong : Now when there is fuch away ofattonement, that when I gee to God for the pardon of my fin, and for helpe againft it, that I know that God (hall never have any wrong through my fin, but what is made up through the blood of his Son, if I had to deale ,with God in himfelfe only, then I might think that the Lord would one day or other be avenged on me though he doll forbear me for the prefent, but now when I come to underhand what the attonement Both meane that Jefus Chrift bath made, what the price is that Jefus Chrift hash paid, I now come to fee a way wherein all the wrong that dyer my fin bath done to God to bemade up, now this cannot but raife up the heart very much.
