But thou mayelt doe thus, I fee the promiie- that is tendred to wretched ftnfull creatures, and therefore though I doe not know that he is mine , yet I will venter my foule and eternal! eflate upon it : I will lie here and roule my Soule upon this Free Grace of God in Chrilt for pardon, and likewise for San&iicacion and Salvation, and for -all good : This is the way of getting comfort I fay to endea- vour what you may to put forth an adt of the Faith of Adhe- rence in cleaving,- though thou canit not put forth an aft of Aihurance : Thus I have endeavoured to fpeak to tho e that are.mourners to comfort them ; For Chrilt faith , they (hall have comfort : If I could but now bring the promife that Chrifi hath made here to anyone Soule, though.it may fall out fo that fome may be hardened -and abufe what is laid; yet it will be enough, and Chrift will accept of it -If the comfort promifed may be brought by this Sermon home to any one foule, Chrifi faith, Thou fhalt be comforted ; but howlhàll this be effe &ed but by the Word, and therefore thou doelt well . to come and attend upon the word : It maybe thou haft conic often times to hear the word, I but it hath not comforted thy foule, there bath not been a union between the word and-thy foule , and fo thou haft gon away comfortlefle ; - Well, yet come againe ; doe not fay, that it is invaine for me to attend the word, for I have heard, I amfure, as precious truths de- livered as ever can be heard by any,and I have not found them to comfort me ; Well, though they have not at that time,there -bath not been a clofe between thy heart and -thole truths, yet flill come again and againe,and at length there Will be-a clofe between the word and thy foule ; and that may be darted into thy foule by the Spirit of God in one fentence, that thou- had'ft not
